About this series
Modernisme Ukrainien is a publishing line dedicated to French translations of early twentieth-century Ukrainian modernist literature.
The series focuses on writers connected with the Ukrainian “Executed Renaissance”: a generation of authors, filmmakers, poets and intellectuals whose work was shaped by the artistic energy of the 1920s and later broken by Stalinist repression.
The line presents these works for French-speaking readers through new translations, critical framing, notes and companion publishing infrastructure. It is not only a translation project, but also a way to redraw the map of European modernism from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa and the Ukrainian literary avant-garde.
The series includes novels, novellas, stories and experimental prose by authors such as Mykola Khvylovy, Iouri Ianovski, Maïk Johansen, Valerian Pidmohylny and Hryhorii Kosynka.
