About this book

Good Dog, Bad District: When Survival Becomes a Community Problem

A water line answers from the wrong side of the floor. For Mriya, an older shelter dog who trusts her nose more than a convenient promise, that sound is the beginning of a much larger problem.

Good Dog, Bad District is Book Two in Good Dogs of the Apocalypse, a darkly comic System Apocalypse LitRPG series about dogs, humans, and the difficult work of building a life together after the world changes. Mriya and her companions have made a home at Pack Hearth—but keeping it safe means dealing with failing infrastructure, scarce resources, and neighboring groups with very different ideas about protection.

A dog’s-eye view of a changing city

Mriya notices what others can miss: a pipe’s strange knock, the damp on a tool, the scent of a route someone has taken—or avoided. Her instincts help the Hearth respond to a water problem that no single person can solve alone.

But the challenge is not only technical. The High Collars have rules and a measure of security. The Free Teeth know routes through territory that others cannot easily cross. Both groups have reasons for doing things their own way, and each bargain has consequences for the people who depend on it.

As Mriya, Nika, and their neighbors work to keep water moving, every decision touches someone’s daily life: who carries a tool, who can use a route, what gets repaired first, and how much risk one group can reasonably ask another to accept.

Found family, practical stakes, and hard choices

This is a post-apocalyptic fantasy about survival at the scale people actually feel it. Water, repair work, food, safe movement, and shared responsibility matter as much as the System’s promises of power.

The System is still there, offering ways to make difficult problems look simpler. Mriya has learned that a shortcut can hide a cost—and that protection can become control when someone else gets to decide what is best for everyone.

The series’ humor comes from its grounded cast and priorities: grand plans meet stubborn tools, imperfect information, and a dog who knows when something smells wrong. Underneath the comedy is a serious question: can a community share resources and responsibility without turning care into ownership?

Continue the Good Dogs of the Apocalypse series

Readers who enjoyed Good Dog, Bad System can return to Mriya’s world as the consequences of the first book reach beyond the Hearth. Good Dog, Bad District expands the story into the surrounding city, where different groups have developed their own routes, rules, and relationships with the System.

With a canine protagonist, a close-knit ensemble, settlement-building stakes, and a darkly comic take on System Apocalypse fiction, Good Dog, Bad District is for readers looking for a LitRPG adventure where survival depends on more than leveling up. It depends on listening, repairing what can be repaired, and deciding what no one should have to surrender in exchange for help.
