Two new AI image models just dropped. And they're approaching the same problem from completely different directions.
Black Forest Labs released FLUX 3 Image Klein. Krea launched Krea 3.
One focuses on powerful, affordable image generation that can run on your own GPU.
The other is all about making professional image editing ridiculously fast.
And both are worth a closer look.
1. FLUX 3 Image Klein: Powerful AI That Runs on 8GB VRAM
Black Forest Labs just released a surprisingly capable 5.6-billion-parameter image model with open weights.
Here's what makes it interesting:
5.6B parameters: A relatively compact model for image generation and editing
Up to 4K output: High-resolution image generation, although quality may vary at larger sizes
10 reference images: Combine multiple visual references in one generation
Bounding box controls: Specify exactly where objects should appear
8GB VRAM: The INT8 version can run on consumer NVIDIA GPUs
Under 9 seconds: Generate a 1MP image on an RTX 4070 using the optimized 16-step model
From $0.009 per image: API pricing at 1K resolution
There's also a base model designed for fine-tuning and a distilled version optimized for faster inference.
One important detail: the weights use the FLUX Kommunity License, which allows free commercial use for individuals and businesses earning under $5 million annually, subject to its terms.
2. Krea 3: AI Image Editing in Under 8 Seconds
Meanwhile, Krea has introduced a new image model focused on something that matters enormously in actual creative workflows.
Editing existing images without ruining everything else.
Here's what Krea 3 offers:
Under 8 seconds: Most edits complete at native 2K resolution
6 reference images: Combine multiple visual references
Character consistency: Preserve faces and identities across edited scenes
Product preservation: Change backgrounds while keeping logos, labels, and details intact
Fast scene changes: Modify lighting, environments, materials, and composition
$0.03 per image at 1K
$0.06 per image at 2K
Krea 3 looks particularly interesting for advertising, product photography, and creative production.
Although there's a catch.
Its image editing capabilities look considerably more convincing than some of its text-to-image results, where artifacts can still be noticeable.
And despite the speed improvements, we're not quite at real-time editing yet.
So which one is more interesting?
FLUX 3 Image Klein is compelling if you want local generation, model customization, low API costs, and more control over image composition.
Krea 3 looks especially useful if you're editing existing visuals and need fast, consistent results.
But here's the bigger picture.
AI image generation is getting cheaper. AI image editing is getting faster. And the difference between generating an image and actually working with it is finally starting to disappear.
At this rate, spending several minutes waiting for a single AI image edit will soon feel positively prehistoric.
