Snapchat just opened its platform to games built with PlayCanvas. And this could be a surprisingly interesting opportunity for indie developers, creative coders, and people building games with AI agents. Because apparently, Snapchat is becoming another place where you can publish your vibe-coded creations. And here's how it works. 1. Build your game with PlayCanvas. PlayCanvas is an open-source JavaScript game engine supporting 2D and 3D graphics, with technologies including WebGL, WebGPU, and Gaussian splatting. 2. Connect your AI coding agent. Here's where things get interesting. PlayCanvas has an official MCP server for its visual editor. Your agent can help: Create and organize scene objects. Write game logic in JavaScript. Import and configure assets. Set up cameras, lighting, and animations. Inspect the scene and iterate on the result. Or you can skip the visual editor entirely and build directly with the PlayCanvas Engine. 3. Publish your game to Snapchat. Once the game is ready, package it as a ZIP file and upload it through Snapchat's My Lenses portal. There are some technical requirements: 9:16 portrait orientation 8 MB maximum ZIP size 1 MB maximum index.html size All assets must be included in the package. After review, the game becomes available inside Snapchat. Players can discover it through Lenses or open it using a Snapcode. 4. Or just describe your game to Easy Lens. And Snapchat has its own AI game creator. For example: "Create a 3D arcade game where a tiny spaceship flies through an endless neon city, dodging obstacles and collecting energy." Easy Lens plans the project, writes the code, and builds a playable browser preview. According to Snap's latest quarterly results: 977 million monthly active users Over 175 million monthly Game Lens users, according to Snap's previously published engagement figures More than 30 million paid subscribers across its subscription products And yes, there's a monetization program. Meet Lens+ Payouts. Approved developers can publish exclusive Lenses and receive a share of subscription revenue based on engagement. Those 977 million users are not your monetizable audience. And neither are all 30 million paid subscribers. Snapchat's Lens+ Payouts program primarily rewards engagement from Lens+ subscribers and subscriptions driven by your Lens. Snap hasn't publicly disclosed the exact Lens+ subscriber count. In other words, millions of plays don't automatically mean millions of dollars. One PlayCanvas game, Snake Showdown, reportedly reached over 7 million plays from more than 1.8 million players within its first four weeks. Another game, Bitmoji Ski, reportedly reached 6 million impressions per day.
