Maxon just released Redshift 2027.0, and this update brings some genuinely useful improvements for 3D artists.
New procedural fur, better GPU memory management, faster rendering, improved real-time previews, and expanded support for professional 3D applications.
And apparently, rendering fur no longer needs to involve quite so much suffering.
Here's what's new.
1. Procedural Fur Object
Redshift now includes a native procedural system for generating fur, hair-like fibers, grass, and textile surfaces.
Instead of building enormous amounts of geometry manually, you can generate these details at render time.
The system provides controls for density, length, gravity, curl, taper, and randomization.
It also supports motion blur, instancing, UV mapping, and Redshift materials.
Think fuzzy fabrics, carpets, upholstery, grass, and product visualization.
All without turning your scene into a terrifying collection of individual hair meshes.
2. Better GPU Memory Management
This is probably one of the most important improvements under the hood.
Redshift 2027 introduces a redesigned VRAM management system with more efficient memory allocation, improved resource sharing, and better support for unified memory.
It can also load scenes across multiple GPUs in parallel.
And Maxon reports rendering improvements of up to 15% in a tested architectural scene.
That's not a universal 15% speed boost for every project, of course.
Actual results will depend on your scene, hardware, and rendering configuration.
But faster scene loading and improved responsiveness are always welcome.
3. ACES 2 Color Management
Redshift now supports ACES 2, the updated color management standard used in professional film and VFX pipelines.
This provides a more modern foundation for consistent color reproduction and interoperability across applications.
Cinema 4D now uses the ACES 2 OCIO configuration by default, while other supported applications can configure it manually.
4. Redshift Live Gets More Realistic
The real-time rendering engine has received several improvements:
Ray-traced depth of field
Improved refraction through transparent materials
Transparent shadows
Area light spread
Faster shader compilation
The goal is simple: make the interactive preview look closer to the final render.
Which means fewer surprises after you've spent an hour getting the lighting just right.
5. Native tyFlow Inferno Support in 3ds Max
For VFX artists, Redshift now supports tyFlow Inferno volumetric simulations.
That means improved integration for rendering fire, smoke, and other volumetric effects directly within the 3ds Max workflow.
There's also a dedicated Redshift tyFlow modifier to simplify volume shading.
6. Redshift Comes to Archicad
Architectural visualization artists get another interesting addition.
Redshift for Architects now supports Graphisoft Archicad through a native plugin.
Architects can preview materials, adjust lighting, and create photorealistic renderings without constantly exporting their models into another application.
And when a project needs more sophisticated animation or cinematic presentation, it can move into Cinema 4D.
So what's the bigger picture?
Redshift 2027 isn't just about adding another fancy rendering feature.
It's about improving the everyday workflow.
Less geometry management.
More responsive previews.
Better memory utilization.
More consistent colors.
And fewer unnecessary trips between applications.
For motion designers, VFX artists, and architectural visualization studios, those improvements can matter more than another spectacular demo scene.
Because the most valuable renderer isn't necessarily the one that produces the prettiest image.
It's the one that helps you produce that image without spending the rest of your life watching a progress bar.
Redshift 2027.0 was released on October 14, 2026.
