Ever wanted to learn something new, only to discover that the recommended course is 40 hours long?
You bookmark it.
Watch the introduction.
Promise yourself you'll finish it someday.
And never open it again.
Well, someone built a Claude Code skill specifically for people like us.
Meet Claudemy, a free, open-source AI learning tool that transforms almost any topic into a personalized course of short, podcast-style lessons.
And the concept is surprisingly practical.
You tell Claude what you want to learn. It builds an entire course around your request.
Not just a summary. Not a random collection of articles.
An actual learning program with research, audio lessons, practical exercises, and references.
Here's what Claudemy creates:
12 short lessons: Approximately two minutes each.
Podcast-style audio: Two AI hosts discuss the subject instead of delivering another boring lecture.
Research-backed content: Claude examines 20–40 relevant web pages.
Multiple perspectives: Compares expert opinions and identifies disagreements.
Lesson summaries: Each lesson includes a three-line explanation of the key idea.
Practical exercises: Small, actionable tasks that help you apply what you've learned.
Source references: Links to the original research, articles, and documentation.
Personal playbook: A collection of the most useful takeaways from the entire course.
And here's what makes it particularly interesting.
Claudemy doesn't simply ask an AI model to invent a course from its existing knowledge.
It actually researches the topic.
First, it identifies the important subtopics.
Then it searches the web, reads relevant sources, compares different opinions, and organizes everything into a logical learning sequence.
The system even checks that cited sources were actually accessed during research.
And before generating the entire course, it produces one sample lesson and asks for your feedback.
That way, you can adjust the style or difficulty before the remaining lessons are created.
Want to learn something specific?
Try:
"Teach me negotiation."
"Create a beginner's course on Three.js."
"Teach me how to design better AI agent workflows."
"Explain behavioral economics through practical examples."
You can even ask Claudemy to build a course based on a particular expert's writing.
And the whole thing becomes approximately 25 minutes of audio you can listen to like a podcast.
Each lesson ends with something concrete to try.
Because understanding a concept and actually being able to use it are two very different things.
How to install Claudemy in Claude Code:
Open Claude Code and run:
/plugin marketplace add assafkip/claudemy
/plugin install claudemy@claudemy
Then simply ask:
Teach me negotiation
Claudemy will start researching and building your course.
What about audio generation?
For natural two-host conversations, Claudemy supports ElevenLabs.
You'll need an ElevenLabs API key and available credits.
On macOS, you can also use the built-in system voices for free.
The skill itself is free and MIT licensed, although Claude usage and optional premium speech generation have their own costs.
And here's why I particularly like this project.
AI has made information incredibly accessible.
But access to information isn't the same as learning.
You can ask ChatGPT almost anything, but that doesn't automatically give you a structured path toward understanding a subject.
Claudemy tries to solve that problem.
Research the topic.
Break it into manageable pieces.
Explain the important concepts.
Give you something to practice.
Then move on.
It's less like asking a chatbot a question and more like having a tiny educational production studio working just for you.
Of course, AI-generated lessons still need critical evaluation, especially for technical, medical, financial, or legal topics.
But for exploring new skills and getting an introduction to unfamiliar subjects?
This is a pretty compelling format.
Maybe the future of online education isn't another marketplace with thousands of courses we'll never finish.
Maybe it's being able to say:
"I want to understand this."
And getting a course made specifically for you.
