What if waiting for your favorite Twitch streamer could actually help save a forest?
Not by donating money. Not by watching an advertisement.
Just by paying attention.
Meet FireCatchers, one of the smartest examples of creative marketing I've seen recently.
Developed by Havas Play and Sapeurs-Pompiers de France, the campaign transforms Twitch's ordinary "Starting Soon" screens into a real-time wildfire detection network.
And the idea is brilliantly simple.
Here's how it works:
Live forest cameras: Instead of a boring waiting screen, viewers see live footage from wildfire-prone areas in France.
Community-powered detection: Gamers watch for suspicious smoke while waiting for their stream to begin.
Instant reporting: If someone spots something unusual, they report the camera number in Twitch chat.
Human verification: When multiple viewers flag the same camera, an alert goes to the local emergency operations center for verification.
Real-world impact: Viewers become part of an early-warning system that can help firefighters respond faster.
The campaign launched in July 2025 with four French Twitch creators.
And according to the campaign's published results, it achieved:
600,000 followers reached through participating creators
786 additional streamers joining voluntarily
2,190 hours of additional live surveillance
5 fires detected
But here's why I find this particularly interesting from a marketing perspective.
This isn't advertising disguised as entertainment. It's entertainment infrastructure repurposed for something genuinely useful.
Havas Play didn't interrupt the audience with another banner.
They found a moment when people were already paying attention and gave that attention a purpose.
They didn't ask gamers to become passive supporters of a campaign.
They gave them an actual role.
And suddenly, an ordinary Twitch waiting screen became a community-powered public safety tool.
That's a pretty powerful lesson for brands, marketers, and anyone working on partnerships.
The best brand collaborations don't just ask for attention. They give people something meaningful to do with it.
Sometimes the most creative media placement isn't about finding a new place to advertise.
It's about discovering what an existing space could become.
