Quick question: When did applying for a job start requiring an autobiographical short film?
Because apparently, sending a résumé and a portfolio isn't enough anymore.
Meet Darshita Patankar, a visual designer who decided to turn her job search into a cinematic experience.
Instead of another boring LinkedIn post, she created DESIGN IS DEAD, a bold, beautifully produced short film about her creative journey, design, and the growing influence of AI.
And the internet absolutely loved it.
Over 2.7 million views in about a day, according to the numbers circulating when I recorded this. Her portfolio website was reportedly overwhelmed by the traffic.
All this just to say: "Hey, I'm a designer. Anyone hiring?"
And here's the funniest part.
The film is genuinely impressive. The storytelling, typography, art direction, and visual identity are exactly the skills she's trying to sell.
So, technically, her job application is her portfolio.
Brilliant work. Seriously.
But I do have one concern.
What's next? A Netflix documentary and an Oscar nomination just to get a first-round interview?
