The About section is mainly for people who do not know me yet.
If you already know me through a project, a book, an article or some previous work, the rest of this website will probably tell you more than a conventional biography ever could. But if you arrived here without that context, this page is meant to provide a reasonable starting point.
It contains some of the usual things: parts of my professional background, fragments of what might otherwise appear in a CV, what I am working on now, the kinds of problems I have experience with, and some of the work I can potentially do for other people and companies.
But ABVX is not really a CV website.
A CV is necessarily reductive. LinkedIn is slightly broader, but even when regularly updated it still tends to turn a person into a sequence of positions, companies, dates and skills. That is useful in some contexts, but it is not a particularly good description of how I see my own work.
My interests move between business, software, publishing, artificial intelligence, agriculture, branding, languages, writing, design and various experiments that sometimes do not belong comfortably to any professional category.
The relative importance of those things also changes.
Something that feels central to my work today may become secondary in a year. A side experiment may unexpectedly turn into a serious business direction. A subject I have worked with for twenty years may suddenly become relevant again because the world around it has changed.
For that reason, the About section changes fairly regularly as well.
It reflects not only what I do, but also how I currently understand what I do, what I believe I can contribute, and which parts of my experience seem relevant enough to mention at this particular moment.
So I would not treat this page as the definitive description of me.
For a better picture, look around.
Focus shows where most of my attention is going right now.
Systems shows the things I build.
Books shows what I publish and many of the subjects I keep returning to.
Writing shows what I am researching, thinking about and trying to understand.
Taken together, those sections probably describe me more accurately than any single About page could.
Still, if you need the short version, this is a good place to start.
